This collection reflects on earlier works created in accordance with the Japanese philosophy of Shibumi. Loosely translated as “effortless perfection,” Shibumi embodies an aesthetic of refined simplicity, elegant restraint, and subtle, unobtrusive beauty. The three core principles of Shibumi: Austerity, Asymmetry, and Subtlety are deeply woven throughout my practice.
Guided by these principles, the collection presents minimalist works designed to invite the viewer to pause and connect with the true essence of the subject.
Inspired by the weathered, and dying leaves of the Eucalyptus plant, this series employs warm tones and unexpected bursts of bright colour to capture their ethereal quality.
I aim to reflect the essence of the leaves on their fragile stems but also comment on the transient nature of life’s cycles, revealing the quiet beauty inherent even in life’s final stages.
